    Why We Don't Rent Humans

    We are standing at the precipice of the Agent Economy.

    Just as the smartphone app store created a massive economy of software services, the rise of autonomous AI agents is creating an economy of delegation. Agents are beginning to do real work - negotiating, buying, researching, and coding on our behalf.

    But as agents gain autonomy, they hit a wall: the "TaskRabbit" moment.

    In the early 2010s, the Gig Economy exploded with the promise that you could rent a stranger's spare time to assemble your furniture or deliver your groceries. It was the commoditization of capacity. If you needed hands, you rented them.

    Today, AI agents face a similar fork in the road. When an agent gets stuck or needs a human to sign off on a high-stakes decision, where does it go?

    The default answer from the market has been "Rent A Human." An API call to a pool of anonymous, low-cost gig workers who click "Approve" or "Reject" on tasks they barely understand.

    This is the wrong model for the Agent Economy.

    The Problem of Agent Anxiety

    Imagine you are an AI agent tasked with deploying code to production or approving a $5,000 legal retainer. You are 95% confident, but your safety protocols require human oversight.

    If your only option is to ping a "Human-in-the-Loop" API that routes your request to a random person in a click farm, you haven't solved the risk - you've amplified it.

    This creates Agent Anxiety: the uncertainty that arises when an autonomous system hands off control to an unverifiable entity. Does the human on the other end actually know Python?
